Kitchen Remodel: Which Tools You Should Have

July 27, 2015 By Tucker

For your personal kitchen redesigning project, you need to obtain the right tools for the type of remodeling you will do. If you plan to do the whole kitchen, you will need tools for extracting flooring and cabinets. To take out everything from the kitchen, the essential tools you’ll need are screwdriver, crowbar, power screwdriver, hammer and saw.

A large number of cabinets are generally held up by screws, and so the screwdriver is needed to get the cabinets out without doing too much damage to the walls. If you intend to utilize the cabinets in a different area, you may want to be careful when you remove them. If you’re just giving them away, it’s not necessary to be concerned with damaging the doors or hinges. A step ladder is useful to take off the upper cabinets get them out of the way. You may find less complicated to take the lower cabinets away first, and to do that you will need to get the appliances out-of-the-way, and remove the kitchen sink. If a plumber is not available, you should have wrenches or pliers to help you take out the sink and garbage disposal.

Prior to removing the lower cabinets, you will need to get the counter tops off, and this might be easier by sawing them into pieces, so you will need a saw also. Taking off the flooring surfaces will be easy once you have removed the lower cabinet. After you get this far, everything should be out of the kitchen so you can examine the walls and replace the sheet rock if needed.

In the event the walls and ceiling are in fair shape, you may simply need to do a little patch work or retexture. Once that is completed, you can repaint the walls and ceilings and add new plates for the electrical plugs and switches. Should you do this yourself, you will need to purchase painting and drywall supplies and electrical tools. Before you buy, determine if you have the tools and resources already.

You have the option of hanging the cabinets first or installing the flooring first then the cabinets. The the next step to complete is to finish it off by putting in the new counter tops, dropping in the new sink, hooking up the plumbing, finishing the base and adding new appliances then you are done.

Also, check if you already need to upgrade your electrical panel. In renovation of your home, particularly the kitchen, always consider the electrical system because this part of the house is usually appliance-heavy. Have a professional to check your electrical system at home to know if you need some electrical service upgrades.

A few of you may have the ability and tools already to remodel your kitchen. For others, not only can it be a learning experience, but a number of tools will need to be purchased.
